Government Plaza: Drop-Off Location for Hurricane Harvey Disaster Relief

August 29, 2017

Being a community that has withstood many disastrous storms, Mobile County will join with other local entities in collecting items for victims of Hurricane Harvey.

Beginning at 8 a.m., on August 30, Mobile Government Plaza will serve as a drop off location for Hurricane Harvey Disaster Relief. The plaza is located at 205 Government Street in downtown Mobile, and is open Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., except on holidays.

The relief effort began earlier this week, when the Town of Dauphin Island started accepting donations and Mobile County offered to partner in this endeavor. “We are answering the call of the communities in Texas,” said Commissioner Connie Hudson. “We are uniting with many others in our community and throughout our county to bring aid to those in need during this catastrophic ordeal.”

Items accepted for donation include: gloves, plastic totes with lids, contractor trash bags, tarps, dish soap, bleach, sponges, scrub brushes, pet food, disposable diapers, bath and dish towels, new socks, paper products, personal hygiene products, blankets, pillows, disinfectants, disinfectant wipes, gift cards* and cases of water.

“In the past, we have experienced our share of hurricanes and had to rely on the assistance of others,” said Commissioner Merceria Ludgood. “Now it’s our turn to lend a helping hand and support the survivors of Hurricane Harvey.”

“We have big, caring hearts here in Mobile County,” said Commissioner Jerry Carl. “I’m asking those who can to let’s come together to assist those in this crisis.”

Donated items can also be taken to Delta Disaster Services (5465-A Business Parkway, Theodore), Dauphin Island Town Hall (1011 Bienville Blvd, Dauphin Island) and to any real estate office on Dauphin Island.

*Gift cards will be given to service agencies to distribute accordingly.
***Please note: As a convenience to the public, donated items can be dropped off at the Government Plaza security stations located at the Government and Joachim Street entrances.
