State of the Art Animal Shelter - Mobile County
February 07, 2018
Mobile County’s Animal Shelter has again passed its annual inspection by the Alabama State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners with flying colors. “This is a state of the art facility. If you’re going to have a shelter, this is what it should look like,” said Dale O’Banion, field compliance officer with the board. “Everything was clean and no issues whatsoever were noted. This is a very nice shelter.”
The state reviewed the general facility, kennels, medical treatment areas, and verified that controlled substances are kept in accordance with state and federal law. Record keeping and environmental management protocols were also reviewed and found to be in compliance.
In 2017, the shelter took in 2,273 animals and responded to 3,924 calls in the field. The shelter operates with 19 staff members, including four fully trained field officers.
“We are very pleased our hard work has paid off again this year,” said Carmelo Miranda, Mobile County’s humane officer and director of shelter and field operations.
