About the Mobile County Sportsplex

The Mobile County Sportsplex offers area athletes and sports enthusiasts a world-class multi-sport venue that adds to local and regional capacity to support and encourage sports competitions for locals and travelers alike.

Located on approximately 150 acres at the intersection of I-10 and I-65 in Mobile, Alabama, the Mobile County Sportsplex offers various exciting and expanding sports opportunities for the entire Gulf Coast region. The Mobile County Sportsplex includes the Soccer Complex, the planned Aquatic Center, and other future amenities like beach volleyball courts, an 18-hole disc golf course, and a pickleball complex. A feasibility study has been completed and the Mobile County Commission is exploring options for a 25-acre public/private partnership waterpark. The Mobile County Sportsplex is a long-term project of the Mobile County Commission led by District 2 Commissioner Connie Hudson.

Mobile County Sportsplex Funding

Due to the value of sports facilities to quality of life, quality of place, and sports tourism, most of the acquisition and construction of Mobile County Sportsplex to date has been through Commission District funds. Self-generated revenue from field rentals is applied to operational expenses. Grants and other funding have been sought and received for this project:

  • For Phase 1 of the Soccer Complex, the Mobile County Commission was awarded a grant of $64,400 as part of the U.S. Soccer Foundation's Safe Places to Play program designed to benefit children living in underserved communities who often lack safe places to play due to the absence of space or funding.
  • Additional investments by the Bedsole Foundation and Schmidt Family.

Phase 1 of the Aquatics Center is estimated to cost $18 to $21 million.

Mobile County Sportsplex is already proving to be a good investment for the future of sports in Mobile County as people consider important decisions about where to visit, live, work, and raise their families.
