Adopted Codes
In 1979, Hurricane Frederick hit and, as a result of shoddy work and rip-offs of repair work to homes, in particular, the County Commission moved the Mobile County building permit program outside the limits of the federally designated flood zone to cover the entire unincorporated portion of Mobile County. On January 12, 1981, the County Commission adopted a resolution that set the codes for the unincorporated Mobile County under the authority granted by Section 41-9-166 of the Code of Alabama, 1975. More recently, the Inspection Services Department was under the 2000 IRC/IBC until 2008, following Hurricane Katrina, when the 2006 IRC/IBC was adopted. In 2014, the County Commission adopted the 2012 IRC/IBC, and that adoption was updated in 2016 with the addition of the plumbing department to Inspection Services. Our Current Fee Schedule was adopted by resolution of the County Commission, which became effective September 30, 2016. Our Current Building Codes were adopted by resolution of the County Commission, which became effective December 31, 2019.
