Equipment Services
The Equipment Maintenance Department's focus is to provide safe, reliable equipment to serve Mobile County. The department maintains and repairs the fleet of construction vehicles and equipment operated by the various Mobile County Public Works Departments. This department also handles the servicing of over 40 generators at key locations around the County. The generators are used to insure the overall safety of Mobile County in the event of an emergency.
The Truck Shop performs preventative maintenance as well as repairs on heavy duty trucks. This shop uses a wrecker to bring in equipment for repair and uses a lowboy to transport construction equipment to project sites for the other Public Works Departments.
The Heavy Equipment Shop performs preventative maintenance, and repairs on all of our heavy construction equipment. This shop also works on a variety of diesel & gas engines, hydraulics, systems, air conditioning and electrical systems. Our Outside Mechanics also operate out of this department. They perform a wide range of preventative maintenance and perform repairs on the equipment and trucks located at Camps 1, 2, & 3 as well as on project locations around the County. These Shops and Mechanics are supported by our Welding Shop and also our Parts Purchasing Department.
The Vehicle Maintenance Department is located at 560 Virginia Street in Mobile, AL. This department is responsible for maintaining and servicing approximately 600 vehicles assigned to numerous Mobile County Departments including Engineering, Public Works, and the County Commission. Maintenance provided ranges from oil changes with filters, tires or brakes, to extensive engine repair. Damaged vehicles are brought here for precision body work and repainting. In addition, small equipment work (chainsaws, lawn mowers, weed eaters) is repaired at this location.
This location also services the 220 vehicles and 50 pieces of equipment for the Mobile County Sheriff's Department. These services include routine maintenance, paint and body work, and the installation of lights and other "extras".
