Posted on: Dec 10th, 2012 | News and Announcements

Mobile County is planning a blowout birthday bash for kids, families and youths that will be topped off with 2,012 cupcakes and a concert by the fabulous Tip Tops Band, all in celebration of the county?s 200th birthday on December 18. The party is set for 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, December 15 at the Mobile Cruise Terminal, 201 S. Water St. The day-long celebration is free and open to all county residents. The Family and Children?s Village features all kinds of hands-on fun. Kids can make their own ornaments at Santa?s Workshop or visit Carnival Games for all kinds of play. Raconteurs will keep The Storytelling Circle humming all day. The Hook-A-Fish station will snag bags of goodies. Kids can get their hands on some real sea life at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab station. At Santa?s Mailbox, kids can write their letters, sign, seal, and stamp them, and drop them into the mailbox. Or kids can just go visit with Santa face-to-face ? he?ll be there all day long. The Mobile Marketplace features 50 local vendors and artisans showcasing local goods, from home-made goat cheese to children?s clothes to artwork and jewelry. A walk through Main Street will be a visit to all 11 municipalities of the county. The Cultural and Community Center will feature the keepers of the culture of Mobile Bay and its communities. To mark the year, 2,012 cupcakes hold center stage as the fabulous Tip Tops Band leads Mobile County in a rendition of Happy Birthday, followed by a late-afternoon concert. ?Best of all, this celebration is a gift to the people of Mobile County to celebrate our long and colorful history and the great future before us,? said Beverly Cooper, president of the non-profit Mobile County Bicentennial Commission. Several sponsors helped make this event possible, including the cupcakes sponsor, Yak the Kathmandu Kitchen in downtown Mobile.
