County Designates Evacuation Zones; Urges Vigilance
Posted on: Aug 27th, 2012 | Announcements
The Mobile County Commission has designated mandatory evacuation zones within the unincorporated areas of the county identified as prone to flooding and other safety threats posed by Tropical Storm Isaac. Residents may view a map of the evacuation zones by opening up this news release on the Mobile County website at www.mobilecountyal.gov. The attached graphic of a Mobile County map allows viewers to zoom in and identify the neighborhoods under the evacuation order. Residents of these areas will receive automated phone call alerts about the evacuation if they are users of AT&T phone services or have signed up for the automated calling service through the county. Those people who would like to sign up for the service may do so on the home page of the Mobile County website by clicking on the First Call link. The automated service is used solely for emergency notifications. The evacuation areas designated by the county are based on a worst-case scenario of a Category 2 hurricane. Even if the current storm, which is expected to increase to hurricane strength, makes landfall west of Mobile, officials anticipate intense rain and winds with the possibility of tornado activity. Emergency response officials encourage residents to take all precautions to keep themselves and their families safe and to heed warnings about locations that pose safety threats. On another matter, Mobile County officials have been working through the day to prepare for the aftermath of the storm. County officials will be out in force to clear roadways as soon as it is deemed safe
