Limited Tornado Debris Pickup in District 3 Following Dec. 27 & 28 Severe Weather Event in Mobile County

MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. – Mobile County Public Works will pick up tornado debris within its right-of-way in a limited area, as approved by the Mobile County Commission.
National Weather Service in Mobile determined two tornados touched down in Mobile County on Dec. 27 and Dec. 28, 2024. These were within County Commission District 3:
- EF0: “Faustinas tornado” touched down just east of Highway 193 and south of Raynell Avenue on the western shore of Mobile Bay
- EF1: “Dees tornado” touched down near the Dees and Dawes communities southwest of Grand Bay Wilmer Road diagonally to the northeast of Ben Hamilton Road.
Public Works worked to clear debris from Mobile County roads after the severe weather event and, with Commission approval, will pick up tornado-related debris such as vegetative debris and construction & demolition (C&D) debris in Mobile County rights-of-way within the affected areas. Public Works will begin picking up tornado debris (both vegetative and C&D) placed by residents in the right-of-way only. Residents near these tornados’ paths may place debris in rights-of-way through Jan. 12, 2024.
Mobile County Public Works Department will only:
- Undertake removal of tornado debris within the limited impacted area identified by the National Weather Service.
- Pick up tornado-related debris such as vegetative debris and construction & demolition (C&D) debris that has been placed in the right-of-way near the confirmed path of the tornado. (see maps below)
- Pick up debris resulting from this weather event only.
Mobile County Public Works will not pick up household garbage, appliances, or hazardous waste.
