New Playground and Walking Trail Open at Escatawpa Hollow Park & Campground

MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. – Mobile County Commissioner Connie Hudson welcomed more than 300 people to Escatawpa Hollow Park & Campground during an afternoon event that officially opened the park’s new playground and newest walking trail.
The 2 to 4 p.m. playground opening event also featured a children’s Halloween costume contest, candy giveaway, face painting, a DJ, and guided tours of the newest walking trail at the park conducted by local U.S. Navy Sea Cadets. Sixty children signed up for the costume contest.
“It’s gratifying to see the children and families enjoy this new playground and walking trail on their opening day,” said Commissioner Connie Hudson. “It’s exciting to bring this state-of-the-art, rustically designed playground to Escatawpa Hollow Park & Campground,” she added.
Features of the new playground at Escatawpa Hollow Park & Campground:
- Swingset – 3 regular swings, 1 ADA chair swing, 1 tire swing
- Dreamin’ Really Big Structure – 4 slides, 2 rock walls, 2 cargo net climbers, 3 raised bridges, 12-foot spider web climber, and a telephone pole climber
- Little Lumberjack Area – 2 small slides, 2 bubble panels, 2 raised bridges, “Tree hugger” climber
- Fallen Tree Forest Climber – An assortment of raised logs for climbing.
- Canopy Forest – 3 rope bridges of various styles, 1 slide, “Tree Hugger” climber, 2 raised platforms.
The new playground is made of handcrafted white cedar wood and other materials. It was designed and manufactured by Bears Playgrounds.
A new 8-foot wide by 840-foot long crushed and compacted stone walking trail also opened at Escatawpa Hollow Park & Campground this week.
Escatawpa Hollow Park & Campground is an more than 230-acre Mobile County park on Moffett Road (Highway 98) at the Alabama/Mississippi state line. The park features river/beach access, restrooms with outdoor showers, parking, eight picnic pavilions, and walking trails that highlight the area’s unique ecosystem. It is open 8 a.m. to dusk for day use daily and for RV camping by reservation.
Escatawpa Hollow Park & Campground is in Mobile County Commission District 2 and Commissioner Connie Hudson is spearheading park growth and improvements.
