Finals Week De-Stressor: Coffee, Donuts and Shelter Puppies

Posted on: Dec 8th, 2014 | News and Announcements

Spring Hill College student leaders have a radical formula for bringing comfort to students during finals week: they have ordered in a kennel full of puppies from the Mobile County Animal Shelter for a coffee klatch this afternoon. ?These are class leaders with a future,? declared Mobile County Commission President Connie Hudson. ?This is an inspired idea to relieve stress.? The leadership also will be providing coffee, hot chocolate and donuts to classmates, with all proceeds from the sales of refreshments going to support the county shelter. The doggy and donuts event is set for 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, December 8 on the campus? Rydex Commons. Mobile County commissioners see the outing as an opportunity to promote the shelter?s animals and to do a good deed for the puppies and the students. ?We have so many animals who need a good home and so many families who would be enriched by having a pet,? said Mobile County Commissioner Jerry Carl. The shelter currently has 40 adoptable animals and more coming in every day that are abandoned on the streets and left to scavenge for survival. ?Instead of buying an animal, we are asking our community to consider adoption to provide homes for them,? suggested Mobile County Commissioner Merceria Ludgood. To view the animals, go to the shelter at 7665 Howells Ferry Road, or view the animals online www.mobilecountyanimals.com. (To find the Rydex Commons, enter from Old Shell Road, turn left, and follow the road for one or two minutes until you come to a large, grassy area by the chapel and the library.)
