Hazardous Waste Event Dec. 12

Posted on: Dec 3rd, 2015 | Announcements

Got old paints, cleaners, pool chemicals and other toxic waste? Mobile County has a solution. Drive up and drop them off at the Mobile County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, December 12 at the Grounds at Cody Road and Ziegler Boulevard. It?s easy and it?s free. Start collecting your drop-off items and set them in boxes or on tarps in your vehicles. On Saturday, just drive through, set your car in park, and let the professionals clear out your vehicle. Chemists and other experts will be on hand to separate the items to properly dispose of them. The county will be accepting oil-based and latex paints, household cleaners, automotive fluids, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, pool chemicals and aerosols. ?These are the types of products that pose a health threat risk if improperly discarded in our landfills or water systems,? said Mobile County Commission President Jerry Carl. Mobile County periodically holds the household hazardous waste collection events to provide the public a save way to dispose of them. All the collection events are sponsored by a $700,000 grant from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. ?We can all do our part to keep our land and waters safe from toxic pollutants, and at the same time, we can get these unwanted and outdated chemicals out of our homes,? said Mobile County Commissioner Merceria Ludgood. ?We have the people and the space to move everyone in and out easily and quickly,? said Mobile County Commissioner Connie Hudson. ?There are few opportunities to get these items discarded and we hope all our citizens will be able to participate.?
