Mobile County Approves $1.8 Million Settlement from BP

Posted on: Jul 15th, 2015 | Announcements

The Mobile County Commission today approved a $1.8 million settlement of a claim against BP for economic damages incurred by the disastrous 2010 BP oil spill. The vote was unanimous at an early morning emergency meeting called specifically to approve the settlement. Mobile County Commission President Jerry Carl would like the settlement monies ?to go toward pay raises for county employees.? The Mobile County Commission filed the claims to recover lost revenues associated with the BP spill. Representing the County were Rob Riley and Frederick Kuykendall. The County?s agreement with BP is entirely separate from the $18.7 billion settlement between BP and the State of Alabama. Mobile County resolved the claim for damages last week. Mobile County Commissioner Merceria Ludgood said that the Mobile County Commission will decide as a body how to allocate those funds during upcoming budget discussions. ###
