Mobile County will break ground today for the new Community Corrections Center (CCC) at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 20 at 357 St. Emanuel Street, Mobile, AL 36603. The new facility will be on the same site of the old facility, but with a new address.
The modern, up-to-date 22,000 square-foot facility will be ADA compliant and provide much needed useable space for the corrections center. CCC offers community based alternatives to incarceration that reduces the cost of punishment while maintaining the integrity of the criminal justice system.
At present, the center?s 41 employees are working out of the Michael Boulevard complex owned by Mobile County, which also houses the main Revenue and License Commissioner Offices.
The cost of the project is $4.2 million and is expected to be completed by October 2018.
The project was awarded to PH&J Architects, Inc. and Steven Vaughn Construction, Inc. Up to now, work at the site has been limited to the tearing down of the old facility.
The County Commission, along with Judge John Lockett and representatives from CCC will attend the groundbreaking and help turn over the first shovels of earth.
