Posted on: Apr 1st, 2014 | News and Announcements

Mobile County Celebrates National County Government Month Each year, local governments across the nation celebrate National County Government Month as a way to raise public awareness and understanding of the roles and responsibilities of county government. In April, the Mobile County Commission will focus on the many public services that the county commission provides to its residents. This year?s theme is ?Ready and Resilient Counties: Prepare. Respond. Thrive.? Each day of the month, the county will issue an unusual or little known fact about county government that will be posted to the Mobile County website: http://www.mobilecountyal.gov ?National County Government Month is the perfect opportunity for our citizens to get to know what county government really does for its citizens,? said County Commission President Connie Hudson. With the signing of a resolution at the April 14 Commission Meeting, the commissioners will officially declare County Government Month in Mobile County. ?Our county has so much to offer to our residents, and we want to show our residents that their leaders are here for them,? said Hudson. National County Government Month was created in 1991 by the National Association of Counties. There are activities at the national, state and local levels during this week with more than 1,000 counties participating annually. As some of you are aware, NCGM was created by the National Association of Counties (NACo) in 1991 to raise awareness about the roles and responsibilities of county government. Mobile County will be involved in a variety of community outreach events and activities. These include: distribution of information about county programs and services, engaging students about public service, meeting with business and community leaders, posting interesting facts on social media and the adoption of a resolution. We encourage you to celebrate National County Government Month with us this April as we help to raise awareness of county government and individual departments that contribute to make Mobile County a ready and resilient county. National County Government Month is a chance to show you exactly Why Mobile County Matters.
