Mobile County Delegation Taps Air Show for Business Prospects

Posted on: Jun 19th, 2013 | Announcements

Mobile County Commissioners hit the tarmac running at the Paris Air Show, meeting with suppliers as well as manufacturers from sunup through late-night dinners and receptions. Not only did suppliers indicate strong interest in the Mobile market, but there are also major manufacturers eyeing Mobile as an aerospace hub where they need a presence. ?We don?t want to talk about names. By disclosing them, we tip off competitors,? noted Mobile County Commissioner Jerry Carl. ?But we have lots of companies that see Mobile as the front door to the U.S. market.? Each of the commissioners made dozens of contacts either by working solo or in teams that included others in the Alabama delegation. ?This is definitely a team effort with every one of us promoting the opportunities of relocation to the Mobile area,? said Commissioner Merceria Ludgood. The Alabama delegation included federal state and local elected officials, business and industry and post-secondary education. Both Mobile and Baldwin Counties were represented. ?Our team is expanding as we try to maximize the opportunities that Airbus presents,? Ludgood said. Suppliers covered everything from engines to bearings to glass and paint. A variety of materials, including high-tech metals and carbon-fibers, are used in airplanes today and are represented by a variety of manufacturers, all of whom are potential business prospects. ?It?s been a very productive few days for us to start up business relationships that could bring jobs to our community,? said Mobile County Commissioner Connie Hudson. ?These are personal contacts that give us a starting point for business development.? ###
