Mobile County Encourages Residents to Prepare for Subtropical Storm Alberto Alberto - Advisory #2 March 25, 2018; 5:00 PM The Mobile County Commission and Mobile County EMA Encourage Residents to Monitor and Prepare for Subtropical Storm Alberto Make plans now to ensure the safety of you and your family. It is important that you continue to monitor Alberto and take the appropriate action to ensure safety during upcoming the severe weather. In preparation for Subtropical Storm Alberto, the Mobile County Emergency Management Agency is encouraging residents to prepare for inland flooding, coastal surge, dangerous winds and potential tornadoes. Friday afternoon the Mobile County Commission hosted a Coordination Group call with the mayors and their staff members, Mobile County EMA, and the National Weather Service Mobile Office. Each agency discussed preparation in response to Subtropical Storm Alberto. The National Weather Service reports Alberto has the potential to become a Tropical Storm affecting Mobile County as early late Saturday night, with conditions deteriorating starting on Sunday afternoon and into the middle of next week. Along the coast, high surf will start on Saturday with heavy rain moving well inland Sunday into Monday. Although it will depend on the exact track of the storm, indications are that much of Mobile County could have up to 12 inches rain through mid-week, with the potential of extremely serious flash and river flooding, and tornadoes. The State of Alabama EMA Director, Brian Hastings was on the Mobile County Coordination call and said, �??Today, I have been a part of several coordinating calls with local and state officials as well as our federal partners with the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The goal is to expedite resources in a timely manner when requests for resources are received.
