Driving down Ann Street has now gotten a lot smoother with the reconstruction of the thoroughfare, between Douglass and Tennessee streets. Mobile County contributed more than $1.7 million toward the project, which totaled nearly $3 million.
On August 20, that section of Ann Street was officially re-opened and dedicated. County funds for the project were allocated by District 1 Commissioner Merceria Ludgood through the county?s 2012 Pay-As-You-Go Program.
?The Ann Street project is good example of how elected officials can work together to address the critical issues facing our community,? said Commissioner Ludgood. ?The county's investment, jump started a project that was then able to leverage additional funds from the City of Mobile.? She continued, ?We serve the same citizens and together we can achieve creative solutions to our most pressing problems.?
Commissioner Connie Hudson echoed Ludgood?s sentiments. ?We know how long this project has been needed and are glad to play a major role in bringing it to fruition,? said Commissioner Hudson.
?Ann Street is a main artery within the City of Mobile,? said Commissioner Jerry Carl. ?Working with city officials to accommodate the needs of residents and to revitalize the area made this project a top priority.?
