Mobilian Wins Prestigious Truman Scholarship

Congratulations, Amanda Scott! The native Mobilan is a student at Georgetown University and was recently named the 2018 Truman Scholar for Alabama. The honor she received is a highly competitive federal scholarship awarded to college juniors who plan to pursue a career in public service. The last Truman Scholar for Alabama from Mobile was Meena R. Kannan in 2003 --- 15 years ago. Prior to transferring to Georgetown, Amanda was very involved in community service in Mobile. She graduated summa cum laude from Coastal Alabama Community College and served on the Board of Directors of the ACLU of Alabama. She also interned at Legal Services Alabama and the South Alabama Center for Fair Housing.
