Stephen Nodine, Mobile County Commissioner, has completed the nation?s most prestigious homeland security program and will now work to improve security and public safety along the Gulf Coast. Nodine completed the Executive Leaders Program at Naval Postgraduate School?s (NPS) Center for Homeland Defense and Security on Feb. 25 in Monterey, Calif. Nodine was the only local elected leader in the country to participate in this year?s class. The 32 participants completed a year of rigorous study that included four one-week intensive sessions at the NPS Center in Monterey. This was the 6th graduating class since the September 11th attacks of 2001. Nodine is the only county commissioner in the nation to participate. Along with Nodine, this year?s class included secret service members, FBI agents, emergency management directors, fire department chiefs, and industry leaders. Instructors included high-ranking intelligence and military personnel. ?I look forward to implementing in Mobile County much of what I?ve learned,? said Nodine. ?I plan on meeting with law enforcement, first responders, and especially the private business sector.? Nodine said homeland security issues are paramount in Mobile with its port, chemical industries, and major economic development sites. ?I congratulate Commissioner Nodine for completing the NPS Executive Leaders Program and I am sure he will put what he has learned to good use for the people of Mobile County,? said U.S. Representative Jo Bonner (R-Mobile). ?It is always valuable whenever one of our own receives recognition for going above and beyond.? Nodine will also brief local leaders along the coast as he continues to promote regional cooperation among county leaders in Lower Alabama and in neighboring states. The Executive Leaders Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), National Preparedness Directorate, and FEMA. For information, visit www.nps.edu.
