Old Paint Disposal Event Scheduled

Got old paint piling up in your garage? Mobile County will take it off your hands. The Mobile County Commission will sponsor a waste paint disposal day on Saturday, November 23 from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Greater Gulf State Fairgrounds. The event gives Mobile County residents an opportunity to properly dispose of paints which can pose a threat to the environment. The paint disposal day, followed by a series of drop-off events for hazardous wastes, will be sponsored by the county over the next three years with a $700,000 grant from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. This first event will be limited to paint and paint-related items. They include: ? Oil-based paints ? Oil-based stains ? Polyurethanes ? Solvents (Mineral spirits, paint thinner, turpentine, acetone, naphtha and methyl-alcohol, etc.) ? Latex paint ? Spray Paint The event is open to households only and excludes contractors and commercial outlets. A limit of 50 gallons per vehicle will be accepted. In the future, the Mobile County Commission will hold drop-off events for electronics, fertilizers, pesticides, cleaners, oils, batteries and similar items. For all events, trained personnel will be on-site to oversee the collection, transportation and disposal. Consistent with EPA and Alabama regulations, these events will be open to residents of Mobile County only.
