Roundabout Meeting Set For Public

Posted on: Apr 21st, 2009 | Announcements

Mobile County Commission President Mike Dean will hold a public informational meeting on the design and use of a roundabout planned for the intersection of Grelot and Dawes Roads and Air Terminal Drive. The meeting is set for 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at O?Rourke Elementary School, 1975 Leroy Stevens Road. The roundabout is the first of many that are being considered for Mobile by county planners and engineers. They cite advantages that include a 90 percent drop in fatalities; a 35 percent drop in all accidents, and greater efficiency because vehicles can slowly move through the intersections without stops and starts. A roundabout is a one-way circular intersection without traffic signal equipment in which traffic flows around a center island. Engineers will show a virtual video of roundabout traffic at the proposed location and give pointers on how to approach and drive through the roundabout. ###
