Posted on: Dec 20th, 2012 | News and Announcements

Physical Education got a lot more exciting for students at Semmes and Tanner Williams elementary schools after the Mobile County Commission secured $57,940 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds for new and improved playgrounds. Tanner Williams received $37,940 for playground equipment and installation, including playground hits like the spiral tunnel slide and the rock climbing wall (see attached photo); Semmes received $20,000 for playground equipment, surfacing, border timbers, and installation. ?There was definitely a need to improve these two playgrounds,? said Commissioner Connie Hudson. ?I?m so glad that we were able to assist Semmes and Tanner Williams. These improvements will aid in the learning process by enriching the body and minds of students.? Now that the improvements are made, school administrators are exuberant about the enhancements. According to Dr. Kathi Reeves, Principal at Tanner Williams Elementary, "The children absolutely love the new playground, especially since it has been many years since we have had one at this school. We are so very grateful." Mrs. Sharon Anderson, Principal at Semmes Elementary, said "The new playground is thoroughly enjoyed by all of our students. It really makes a difference for our children and gives them a place to expend some energy. We thank Commissioner Hudson for the contribution and support. It really makes a difference for our children and gives them a place to expend some energy."
