Special Meeting for Major Roadwork Planned

Posted on: Mar 26th, 2009 | Announcements

The Mobile County Commission will hold a special meeting at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, to speed up the award of a major road building project that will put people to work and millions of dollars into the economy. The meeting will be held at Mobile Government Plaza in the auditorium. ?We are doing our best to save jobs and to strengthen our local economy,? said Commission president Mike Dean. The next regularly scheduled meeting will not take place for three weeks. The county is set to award a $3.7 million bid to John G. Walton Construction Co. to build the long-planned connector roadway between Hillcrest Road and I-10 via Rangeline Road. The project, long-sought by the county to provide access to the interstate, has been on the books through four commissioners and 22 years. The county anticipates that the road will eventually carry 8,000 to 10,000 vehicles per day. Construction will take about 18 months. Attached is the full agenda for the meeting, including authorization to start engineering for part of the $3.7 million in road projects awarded to the county as part of the federal stimulus package.
